What Christians are being prepared for

All authentic Christians can see that God is working in their lives, teaching lessons of character such as patience, obedience, humility, and persistence. The fruits and graces of the Spirit are vital elements of every sanctified heart ... but what purpose do they have?

Paul explicitly answered that question in 1 Corinthians 6:2 -- "Don't you know that the saints shall judge the world? Don't you know that we shall judge angels?" And in 2 Corinthians 10 Paul assured us that every faithful Christian will be able to "revenge all disobedience when your obedience is completed." The Christian suffers, like Jesus, to learn obedience. It's good that it makes us better. But it will also equip us for usefulness, because we will be able to be sympathetic to a world of mankind that, as they move toward eternal life, will need the helpful guidance of heavenly case-workers -- people who have "been there, done that", and can actually help minister to folks who struggle with the same addictions we wrestled with while on earth. Addicted to anger? A victorious Christian will know how to help. Discouraged by selfishness? Overcoming saints will join with Jesus in the administration of all the earth's problems. See Revelation 2:26-27.

The role of Christians in heaven is described as "kings", "priests", and "rulers". (See Revelation 1:6, 5:10; and Matthew 25:21,23) These are not symbolic statements, but clear, repeated promises. Yes, Christians will praise God forever -- but one of the most exciting reasons they'll be praising God from Heaven is that the rest of the resurrected world of mankind will begin praising God from earth. When the evil rulers of earth are put down, and he meek inherit the earth, the golden age of the prophets will finally be fulfilled: "The whole earth is at rest, and is quiet -- they break forth into singing!" (Isaiah 14:7)

Remember -- he that overcomes will be made into "trees of life." What does the tree of life do in the restored Garden of God? (Revelation 22:1-3) The leaves of those Trees will heal the nations. So Christian, take heart. Your troubles and vexations are preparing you to be a source of spiritual food and nourishment and healing to all the rest of the world!
